Life certainly has a way of speeding up, Mireia thinks.

It feels a little bit like advancing to a fast lane after having spent a few years driving slowly on narrow countryside roads.

Both Corbin and her are advancing at work, spending a lot of time perfecting themselves and their skills in order to get better tasks, make more money, move forward. And right now they are pretty successful, both of them. It’s a blessing that the girls are a bit older and can play together for some time and it’s an even bigger blessing that Corbin has been making quite a lot of money at work recently. It fills up their savings account and make them feel like they can afford taking a few weeks off here and there.

She still works horrible hours, however, and that won’t change in a few years most likely. At least not unless she can find a position doing something else at the station and she’s not sure she wants to. Being a cop is the life long dream she’s been having and it feels like a luxury to get to work in the field now – finally – after the academy and two pregnancies.

Silvia is a patient big sister most of the time, helping Alba more often than she’s teasing her. For Christmas the girls got a big activity table and it’s been the best thing in the world, so far. Keeps them entertained for hours and makes it possible for their parents to get house chores done while still keeping an eye on them.

It’s even possible some nights to get part of her workout routine done while the kids are still awake, which would have been impossible only a year ago.

The big downside to life, however, is the working hours and how little time she gets to spend with her husband. She knows he’s much more liberal with the idea of how many kids he want in his life and could easily imagine at least one more, but she’s firm in her belief that two is enough and will continue to be enough. If he gets that longing gaze in his eyes sometimes when they pack up Alba’s baby clothes and put them on sale online, Mireia reminds him of how good life is at present.

They even manage to get in a few date nights every now and then with the help of family and friends who are eager to babysit. Or if not eager then at least willing.

A few hours alone are rare treasures for parents and Mireia knows how to treasure them. So does Corbin who typically books the restaurant or the spa or whatever he’s got up his sleeve and refuse to let her know where they are going until the very last minute. He claims that’s part of the charm.

Mireia also try to keep up with her big, somewhat messy family, which occasionally resembles a full time job of its own. Her dad, at least, is settled and non-messy since basically forever now and she’s grateful for it since he used to drive her nuts, growing up.  But from dad she learns that Amara is pregnant and intends to keep the baby. Apparently it’s “not that bad” and “they seem very determined” which isn’t calming Mireia in the slightest. But Amara’s mother Petra is a calmer kind and claims she’ll be there to help out, even if Mireia finds everything about this completely and utterly awful.

“Well it is their decision,” Susan tries to argue. Susan who is usually a beacon of clever thoughts but in this case, Mireia isn’t certain she knows what she’s talking about.

“How can it be when they’re both kids?”

“Well, they’re both what, 16 next year?” Susan smiles a little. “Don’t get me wrong, I’d prefer if they had an abortion, but since they won’t, we’ll have to do our best to help them out. Yeah?”

Mireia sighs.

“Yeah, I suppose.”

In all the years since her dad met Susan, she has never once felt like a step-mother but now she actually does. Only a couple of years older but still with that different perspective on things. Mireia isn’t willing to sway to a different opinion but she decides to drop the subject, at least.

It’s a hot, humid summer this year and they spend a lot of time in her dad’s backyard, letting Elton and the girls run around naked and cool themselves off in the pool every now and then.

Enid and Ethel are nine now and very devoted aunties to Silvia and Alba and can easily play with them for hours without losing their patience like they do with their own toddler brother.

Corbin claims it’s good prognosis for the future when they will have an endless supply of babysitters for their date nights.

And she’s quite willing to believe him.

* LOL at Mireia and Susan sporting the exact same bikini. I couldn’t be bothered to change.
* The Olofskis are making good money and do spend most of their time being accomplished adults so their play session was pretty uneventful. They both roll mostly work-related wants and the rest are related to hanging with family.

  1. I noticed the matching swimsuits but wa distracted with the news about Amara. Just how are they making that work?

  2. These two are a great couple, and they have an amazing backyard for their kids to play in. I can see Mireia being upset over Amara’s pregnancy, hopefully she is a support and keeps her opinions to herself, afterall there is no changing what’s been done.
